The VIP Valentine Retreat has got a feeling of old times, in positive way, when the staff is available and customer service is high quality. We had a nice room, bathroom is big with a bath tub and they provide a complimentary nightly turn down service, which gives a guest a feeling of high quality. Spa is included to the room price and it is a really nice experience with many sauna’s, warm pool and relaxing areas, gym. Breakfast is great with many choices. If you want to relax, go to this hotel!

“This hotel cherishes you from the moment you arrive.   Breakfast is served in quite a grand way and with an excellent variety of dishes to try.  We ate dinner at the restaurant, which was very good with first class service.  Our bedroom was comfortable with premium toiletries. The staff are eager to tell you of the hotel’s fascinating history which we so enjoyed hearing.  What must have been discussed in the cosy bar in times gone by I can only imagine… Would I return?  Absolutely”

A five star experience from arrival to departure. I can only describe the service as, literally, second to none, and I believe this is because the hotel’s staff seem to be part of its fabric. From Jose Alfonso and his colleagues on the front door to Duty Manager Mario and everyone in between, it is truly the people that make this hotel stand apart from others in its class.  I visited with my family to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Celtic winning the European Cup in Lisbon on May 25th 1967. The selection of this hotel was clearly a winning choice for the team! The beauty of this hotel is that I felt as if it was still 1967. The hotel just oozes class of a bygone era, with, of course, the service to match. Everything is first class: the location, the food, the pool area, the bar, the staff! I have just one suggestion: a framed photo of the Lisbon Lions in the corridor leading towards the dining room. They may not be royalty like the other photos in the corridor, but they are to us! Many thanks for a unforgettable experience.

The hotel room was great, the service was great the location was spectacular.  Kings and Queens and Princesses and others have enjoyed this hotels. The breakfast is exquisite and the service is impeccable. In 1968 the 007 film “On her Majesty’s Special Service” was filmed here. Guess the actor portraying James Bond. I know you will be surprised. The doorman, now 84, was the doorman at that time. A fun addition to the overall charm of the hotel.Try the four season grill. It was an outstanding value considering the level of food , service, wines and entertainment. Quite romantic for our 40th wedding anniversary celebration.

If walls could talk, this hotel could entertain you for a lifetime from James Bond to European royalty. Everyone has stayed here. An elegant old hotel with rooms facing the casino gardens and water – the view from the junior suites with its ample balcony  is captivating. The service is old world attention to detail. The common areas provide quiet spaces and luxurious elegance. The early bird breakfast buffet from 2 AM offers sustenance for late night casino patrons or  those with early morning tours or tee times. They’ve thought of everything. Breakfast is excellent with a wide variety of selections. The garden and swimming area are well maintained and beautiful. The rooms are comfortable as are the beds. Staff were welcoming and offered attention to detail. From our first moments of arriving and being greeted by the charming Joana Alice at the front desk, to the moment our Uber drove away, we enjoyed every moment at this beautiful, historic hotel. So much so, that we even lost the money we had pre-paid for a hotel in Sintra and stayed two extra nights here. It’s an easy day trip to Sintra and Lisbon. You can also walk along a beautiful oceanfront walkway to the town of Caiscas, in about a half hour. We only wished we could have stayed longer. Every member of the staff went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. We ordered room service a couple of nights and it was very good, and reasonably priced. The included morning buffet breakfast was outstanding. Such a selection! You wouldn’t be tired of eating there for weeks. The servers are very accommodating, making coffees and eggs to order. We did book a massage, which was a very nice atmosphere and a good therapist. The included spa/sauna experience available to all hotel guests, even without a treatment is really unique. We enjoyed it every day.
